Maria studied scenography and has a keen interest in designing elements that bring meaning to a space without occupying it. She began her professional journey by working on lighting for performances. In 2003, she founded La Invisible Lighting Design Lab, which she balances with her role as Artistic Director of the LlumBcn festival and Co-director of the Master's program in Architectural Lighting Design at UPC. Maria also teaches at schools such as Eina and Elisava and is a Senior Professional Member of APDI (Professional Association of Lighting Designers).

Her studio experiments with the relationship between space and light and its significant ability to enhance people's environments. They approach aspects of light from various fields, including design, art, architecture, landscape, and product design. Teaching and management are also significant drivers for them to research and continue seeking new professional, conceptual, and technical strategies.
